Finally got to the range and was able to velocity test some of Fritz454"s 540 grain .475 bullets in my 470 Mbogo. I started off with 100 grains of Reloader 15 and worked up to 106 grains. The results are as follows:
100 grains of Reloader 15- 2258 fps
104 grains of Reloader 15- 2299 fps
105 grains of Reloader 15- 2355 fps
106 grains of Reloader 15- 2389 fps
This is looking pretty good as the 2389 fps is the actual chronograph reading so the actual velocity is 2400 fps which was the goal. As soon as I get my new 470 together I will be able to test the 106 grain load for accuracy. The new rifle will have a 1.5 to 5 leupold on it I think Fritz's bullets with a flat meplat of .410 tapering to caliber will be one devestating bullet.

A 475 caliber with a 540-grain solid driven at around 2400 fps sounds like a perfect T-REX hunting cartridge. It's good to see your post again 470 Mbogo. Thanks for the results and please keep us posted.

470,

Do you think you could drive that bullet up to 2650 fps?? [Wink] Just thought I'd be the first to ask. [Razz]

Thanks for the results. They are very encouraging. I will definately have to place an order (fritz - e-mail on the way!).

Mingo said it right...A 540 grain solid at 2400 fps should cover just about anything this planet has to offer.

Cheers,
Canuck

Which nose style did you get?

My favorites are nose #3 and nose #4.

It's a #4 with a bigger meplat than the standard one.

470 MBOGO/Dave- I'm moving along real well with my 470 MBOGO second rifle. This one is built on a CZ550 and it's in the final stages of barrel inletting. The stock is the one you sent me and I put three mercury recoil reducers in it along with a F990 pad. With a 26 inch Pac-NOR RGB profile barrel it's about 13.5 lbs. Balances just under the front ring and will flawlessly feed 4 EMPTY cases! Best rail/ramp job I've ever done! As soon as it's glassbedded, I'll try some of your loads with Fritz454's bullets. I'll send you some pics.-Rob

Hi Rob,
Glad to hear your so close. I just got my stock back from having it checkered and the metal work from being blued. It looks awesome. I'll have to wait to post some pictures. It's grey and raining at this moment. I heard the other day that Quality Cartridge has shipped 470 Mbogo brass. I think you were correct when you said to skip some of the engraving and source the funds into good checkering. Boy did the guy at Weber&Markin ever do a nice job. Jeffe and his buddy Mike are real close to having Mike's 470 ready to shoot also. Hopefully they will send some pictures soon also.
Take good care,
470 Mbogo

Hi again Rob,
The CZ550 is the ticket for the 470 isn't it. Mine is on a 602 with a little deeper magazine box and will hold 4 in the box. I have a 23 inch Pac-Nor barrel with a forward mounted peep that I think you would really like, especially if your eyes are starting to slip a bit like mine. The velocities that I posted were with my CZ 550 action and a 24 inch barrel. I'm going to see what difference the 1 inch of barrel will make. I know it's a different rifle and barrel but just curious.
Take care,
470 Mbogo

470Mbogo,
Was this the "new" 470 that you were referring to - the 602 that you described?

I'd like to hear more about that forward mounted peep too!

Hi Jeff,
Yes the new 470 is on the 602 action. I'll post some pictures of the rifle and the forward mounted peep. I mounted it on the quarter rib so that I can put a 1.5 to 5 Leupold scope on it with the standard Bruno mounts. It's from Ashley and is made for the Ruger 77. The stock number on the sight is 23-2003A-191-1 and comes with the standard peep and one that is .191 ID which is awesome for the forward mounted position. The wesite is www.aosights.com. I hope this helps you.

Dave- The 470 MBOGO I'm working on uses the stock prototype for the 600 OK and has the three mercury recoil reducers in the butt. The obligatory F990 pad and No muzzel brake yet. I'm finished inletting and now just shaping the stock prior to Blueing and finishing. I also plan to send it out for checkering in a week or so. This one will actually feed fired cartridges.-Rob
