Well she started out english as the reciever says " Interarms Manchester England'" but she was Americanized as it also says Virginia and is the "Alaskan"
Well Ive started to restock in a more English style. Ive added 2 crossbolts installed a new recoilpad, Devconed around the recoil lugs and crossbolts. I inlaid a zebra wood Africa and added a Zebra wood cap. I will bed it this week end and shape the wrist grip area then its time for much sanding.
Ive also redone the magbox latch " moved the button to the outside of the trigger guard. And will be adding a barrel band sling swivel. I have a rear express sight but am not sure I like the looks of it.
Ps can you put tru oil over the top of linseed oil I like to wet sand with linseed oil?

You can put tru-oil over linseed oil.

Before you do that. Try Sea-Fin's Ben Matte oil. You will like the looks a lot better and it is some much easier to repair if damaged. Most of the pro stockers use it. You can put the Ben matte over the linseed also.

You might try a coat of linseed oil and then wet sand with the Ben Matte.

Just a suggestion. It works well for me.

Tonto,
Your getting there but you have a ways to go..steel checkered grip cap, Ebony or no forend tip, no flare at the pistol grip, Forend should never be over 9" long and 8" is better, must have a Silvers or at least a London guns pad with a scroll in the top, leather covering on that pad is a very English touch...drop box magazine is almost a must and barrel band sights and front swivel are absolute, but a quarter rib will do in back and lets not forget the cast off, that is the recoil killer...Like I said your getting there and once the progression starts there is no stopping it, your had [Big Grin] [Wink]

Your gun looks a 100% better now, and I bet it feels better. Ben Matte is good stuff but so is Tru Oil...I would suggest that you wet sand with mineral spirits first as that kind of washes the wood out and gets the surface clean, then wet sand with 50-50 Spirits and Ben Matte or True oil from 220 to 400..

Thanks for the advice.
The flare is coming off the pistol grip. I am waiting for the cap to get here. I have the barrel band swivel mount. I want to get the 1/4 rib rear sight and the band front sight. But I am going to wait until after my hunt as Ive done all my practicing with the sights it has now. Dropbox mag. is something you got me thinking about now. But I might save it for the 450 rigby I want to try next.
Thanks Dean

The poor soul has been smittem with the English fever, a horrible desease that lifts the spirit and makes one whole, symptons are:

1. Everything on your gun must be functional above all else.

2. Gaudy is not allowed in any manner

3. you must carry a cross to ward off the evil spirits of Monte Carla, stainless steel, plastic...

4. You have developed a hatred for kitchen appliances because the look like your best friends gun...You pray for him

5. short barrels are clubs.

6. too much wood on a stock is the stock from hell, even a little too much wood.

7. You have learned a new word, called "cast off"

8. You found out that you really can shoot iron sights very well, even with your bad eyes, and you been telling folks they could not for years.

9. you have become convienced that to hunt with a push feed rifle is unbecoming to your personality, and foolish besides.

10. You have now pissed a lot of folks off, but it goes over your head as you are now in world of your own, and nothing else matters but visions of yourselt shooting elephants with a beatifull English rifle...you can conjur up Pondoro in a heartbeat.

Based on the above it is suggested that you refrain from ever shooting or even handling a English double rifle as your susceptable to the finer things in life and apparantly have a poor immune system and you would easily be enfected, your kids would go without milk and your wife barefooted, but you will be a happy camper and all the suffering around you will go unnoticed.. I would add to Ray's very well written and researched post that you are immune to English Rifle Lovers Syndrome (EaRLS)if:

You now have a Remington that is not for sale at far less than it is worth just to get it out of your house.

You think that clips are cool in Rifles.

You see no need for open sights on your rifles.

You love Weatherby stocks, particularly the inlaid ones.

You belive that bullets should all travel faster than 2500 fps.

You have a rifle sling with a deer on it or one with bullet holders built in.

You wear camo shooting gloves or camo sunglasses.

You wear blue jeans while hunting in Africa.

You believe that wearing a Safari Coat to the Theater is tacky.

I am sure their are other symptoms and signs of immunity. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than i will post them.

I am not immune! I found the only way to keep from spending way more than I should for a double was to book a DG hunt for September. But i just know thats only covering up the symptons. Hell Ive even grown pork chop sideburns in case of throphy pictures.
Go to go must shave off more wood on that stock.

Tonto,
Y'poor fellah, now you've got to stock up on the claret and the vintage port, don'tcherknow. See your optometrist johnny about a monocle for readin', add a proper mustache to those sideburns and don't forget a visit to www.tagsafari.com for a pith helmet. God save the Queen and Long Live the Spirit o'Khaki.

Tonto- there is no immunity! Once this disease is contracted you are a gonner! Soon nothing but Holland and Holland Arms will be allowed in your gunsafe and the name Jeffery will be upon your lips at least once per hour! Damn why did they have to get it so right?-Rob
