Hello, May not be the right spot for this, but sight is on 458Lott Ruger RSM. Purchased subject sight recently to fit on rifle and can say that overall the unit is well done and appears to be very strong/robust as it should be on a rifle of this caliber. Sight is supplied with two apertures and those can be changed to about any size one might prefer due to personal vision. Removal of the aperture might not serve as a "ghost ring" sight as on other peep sights, for the opening is somewhat elongated/vertical but w/ larger aperture not a problem. Attachment is a snap using the milled dovetail slots in the rear receiver bridge on the Ruger. Tightened mine w/ coin(quarter) and will double check if becomes loose after a few rounds. I doubt that it will, but will find out soon enough. As for fit and finish/quality/features the sight is a real plus for the rifle for those liking peep style sights, quality of mfg. appears to be very good and does have adjustment ability for both elevation and windage. Negatives?? Yes, and would say that the edges/corners of the sight body should have been sculpted to not be sharp and more pleasing to the touch by doing so. Easily corrected with some light file work(all steel construction.) The three leaf sight insert on the rib of the Ruger has to be removed, but that is not a major problem. Have not shot as of this date, but sight appears to be regulated elevation wise with the issue Ruger RSM front sight and if not, should have ample adjustment to do so. Again, good sight option for the Ruger RSM either as full time sight or as excellent back up sight. Can carry in pocket/pack and once zeroed can be locked in place and would be very close to original zero when reinstalled I would think.
driver, i'll second every thing you said. i've had one of these since 2004 (use it on a .405 #1) and it works perfectly for me. i also bought one of NECG's white front sights for the #1, a very good combo for me. that white bead shows up very good against buffalo hide. . like you, i would like for the rear sight to be more slim and trim.

Hello degoins, I have a NECG fiber optic/red on a Mauser 9.3 I just recently finished, but the rear is the NECG island sight w/ one blade, but the combo lines up fast. I have some fear of the fiber getting whacked and broken and will probably opt for the Sourdough style for future front sights. The "issue" front sight on the RSM is ok, but I bet you can see that big white bead and in particular with the peep style sight. Guess I will just have to have one of those as well!! I shot service and match rifles for several years using micrometer/peep sights and am quite comfortable with them and I will use my files to give the NECG peep sight a bit of a trim on the corners, edges, etc. and apply some cold blue for final finsih.
Hello, Good looking rig w/ the peep sight. Not sure what the future is of that round you have, but some pretty impressive numbers regarding trajectory, wind bucking ability/drift, BC, etc.
Back on the subject of the NECG sight, mentioned that I had to remove the three leaf sight insert on the RSM and believe I will find me a slab of brass, polish, shape to fit the dovetail and insert as a filler w/ initials on the brass plate. Another thought is to use a piece of ebony and accomplish the same thing w/ initials filled w/ white paint or even gold. When you get up there in the three score and ten age zone, it is amazing what the mind/imagination does for you!!! Thanks for sharing the picture with us, looks just fine.
driver, that white bead works great for me, however it is a good bit larger in diameter than the factory sight. our driver/assistant ph in Zim said it was too big for him, but he was a young lad of 20. hey, i love that brass filler idea of yours. i think it will look very classy.

F224. Cool looking utility rifle! Back to the NECG aperture sights. I have emailed them several times, never answered. I want to buy this sight for its QD abilities on my Valmet 412. But it has an unusual size dovetail. I use them on my Sako in 308 in the Apel mounts. I use the Weaver QD style on my Savage 99 358 WCF when weather is bad for the Kahles. I keep these sights in an Eagle butt stock pack that has ammo loops and lots of room for survival items. The pack has adjustable velcro fastened straps and a nice thin but soft cheekpiece on the off side. Good luck with the peep sights. I found them useful over the years in all sorts of hunting weapons. I don't know the specifics of the bases you describe, but the following are sako aperture sights that fit sako bases- and I don't know what era of sakos that is, I suspect early ones:
I apologize for being unclear. I have an Apel QD scope mount system on one of my Sako rifles. I use the NECG sight when it is wet weather instead of the optics. On the other Sako, I use the Sako aperture full time. What I need is a QD NECG aperture which will mount on top of the barrel dovetail of the Valmet 412. Thanks for the link. Those look like the one I use on a Sako. I wasn't aware they are quite common. Packrattusnongratus
Simply said the NECG aperture sight is one which for me was well made and efficient. I agree they could be prettier. But I don't see how they could be more efficient or better in any way. I think they are priced right for me at $90.00 to my door. Packy
I also have a NECG Peep Sight on my Ruger M-77/.44 Magnum, and it has worked fine on my Ruger. Much easier shooting in brushy/wooded areas than using a scope. One notationis that you must replace the front sight with a little taller one; I installed a Williams Firesight which proved to be a good investment.

There is the Recknagel #11800-0000 peep sight that is blank on the bottom and could be machined to fit on the 412's rail. I suppose that Recknagel could make the machining. www.recknagel.de Lefteris.
