Hello All I know for buffalo and larger game premium bullets are required in the 375HH. But there seems to be two conflicting lines of thought for shooting smaller thin skinned animals with the 375HH. When shooting red deer, pigs and possibly Kangaroos am I better off with flat trajectory and an expanding 235gn bullet that hopefully won't penetrate the full length of the animal. or A large 300gn bullet that won't expand and will punch through leaving a neat wound channel. I personally like the idea of taking all the sting out of the bullet so it doesn't pose as much a risk of richotte's to anything behind the animal. I am also concerned by a nice chest shot going through the stomach and getting the stomach juices on valueable meat when dressing. Will most probably experiment with every bullet I can get my hands on but would be interested in your thoughts regards robe

For your application, I'd wouldn't worry about it since you've got a good combination going and you're satisfied with the results. The 300 grainers are for the big stuff and with the proper soft, it won't put a nice neat hole in it. For red deer, roos and pigs a light bullet is perfect. Also, an exit hole is always best because the name of the game is tissue damage. But with little animals I would not be concerned about it one way or the other.

For your application, any bullet in a .375 is fine..... If you were hunting in say Tanzania for plainsgame and a tuskless cow decided to take you on and you shot her with a 235 gr. bullet, then your Aussie mama would be distrought over her son being put to rest as greasy sand... The point being be prepared for the bad'uns and save a lot of meat to feed the staff and clientele, use 300 gr. premiums. Thanks for the replys Some rather large Bulls in the paddocks I roam. The greasy sand hasn't been to far of my mind a few times now despite their domestic origins . Will keep this inmind while i have some fun with 235gn Woodleighs. But will definetely try some 300gn soft noses as well. regards robe from the otherside

[QUOTE]Originally posted by robe0280: juices on valueable meat when dressing./QUOTE] I don't get it. If you are "biltong" hunting, why bother with a .375H&H? Isn't that overkill? ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Like most things its a trade off and the best route is down the middle, try a 260 gr. Nosler or a 270 gr. Hornadys. or something like that. Split the difference. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Ok Robe, you got me! Do you know why I ordered .375H&H? I got tired of my .300WM and had 20 boxes of .375 Winnie 'Silvertips' laying around. You see, with that big hole I don't have to worry about "nice mushrooms" or deep penetration on North American or European heavy game. That .300 was a BITCH! Do I use Remi/Winnie SP, NP, TBBC, Fail Safe,....I don't miss that bloody headache!

Short answer YES..... but it will be in my safe and I want to pull the trigger. Figured that with some careful reloading my 375HH could be quite versatile. Shot a red deer with a 260gn Nosler a fortnight back and was wondering how the other bullets would perform before I use them. Also have some 375 big bore bullets available so I will see how they perform on Kangaroo's Cheers robe

Have noticed Ricks post https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4711043/m/208104823 Similar to mine so I will buy a pack of 235gn Woodleighs and some hornady 300gn soft nose and compare those to the 260gn Nosler partitions I have already used. The 260gn Nosler mushroomed nicely and the jacket held to together despite passing up through the spine. The lead core had seperated from the jacket though.
