George, that is a reinforcing bolt. It is an abomination. I wonder if it can be replaced with an ebony dowel or capped on each end with a piece of ebony for a more pleasing look.

That is the one remaining eyesore I've noticed on some of the nicely refinished CZ's pictured on this forum.

That was my original plan, but it is literally out of my hands, and into my gunsmith's hands now. It was kind of neat seeing his eyes light up at the oportunity to work on a real piece of wood. He has a (well deserved) reputation as an accuracy gunsmith, but I think he really loves wood also. Hell, I'm just curious to see how it turns out.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a decent stick for you. I bet a lot of people will be buying the new American styled stocks to replace their old luxes.
I think they may have switched over to just using American walnut. The last three CZ's I've picked up were very dense, and very plain.
