they are all:

1. well written
2. informative
3. entertaining to sit around with a good cigar and some Pusser's Rum of an evening.

I like Ron Cubay-anejo. I agree that Boddington is informative.I learned things from reading his Buffalo book.I think I will pour myself a little now!

His worst book is Fair Chase in North America.

It is either massively reworked by Boone and Crocket or he was writing under their guidelines so heavily that it made it a weird book.

Everything else is great!

I really like CB's early works, such as the one you mentioned above, George. I avoid his new stuff as he is either selling himself or paying back someone for a free hunt or free item. Too bad, really, as he has moved from an excellent and knowledgeable writer to (as many have said) an industry whore. But, money talks (that's why women become whores, too).

Cal, I would very strongly disagree with that assessment.

I would challenge you to come up with a name, in the last sixty years to compare his hunting contributions with. His is the only name that comes to mind who has hunted Africa so extensively. His books are filled with photos and pleasant campfire stories to share. As well, there is a forty year-plus history of his hunts to make what he writes so informative AND entertaining. He sets his ego aside when he sits down at the computer...

I was pretty impressed with his book African Safari Rifles. It will make its mark in African hunting for years to come..I have not read his other books, but his articles in the gun rags are always worth a read, more than I can say for many of todays young guns.

Boddington reminds me somewhat of Ruark. Both come across as vacationing safari hunters who give you the details of their hunts not much different than a hunt report.I find the style a bit boring.

I am about half way through the book and enjoying it.I liked the part were he hunted the Humani ranch, also the Hartmann's zebra in Namibia or southwestern Africa. There is much to learn about safari hunting as it progressed through the seventies and eighties-which countries were open, which were closed and why were they closed etc...
