I know a number of our avid readers on this forum have previously read Kambaku, the story of one of Mozambique's most famous postwar ivory hunters.

I just finished the excellent book. If you have not read this book you need to get your hands on a copy.
What an interesting adventurous life he led. Harry is an excellent writer with an excellent vocabulary. Over 1,000 elephants taken, one with tusks weighing 187 and 185 pounds, the fourth largest tusks taken b y a hunter. He survived 35 determined elephant charges and plenty of buff charges as well.

His story of finding and developing camp Shangri-La is fascinating . He built the roads and bridges to get there. Really in the backblocks removed from any civilization.

His life included heartache as well , will not spoil the story for those who may wish to read the book.

I enjoyed the Wally Johnson story but find this book even better, just my opinion.

Other than the Ruark books I think this may be my favorite African hunting book.

Excellent read. Very well written, Harry could have taught English !

Would welcome your input .

Kambaku is one of my favorite African hunting books. I've probably re-read it more than any other. Your right it's very readable and a good story all round.
