I obtained an older edition of this book after seeing a number of titles written by John Burger. I like Burger and have tried to read all of his books. I was curious why this had not surfaced as reprint. After reading it, I know why. This is a typical Burger type book - stories about encounters with cape buff. He was a buff fanatic and spent little time hunting other game. This book seems to the be the source of the stories included in the recent reprints (African Adventures, African Campfire Nights, and African Jungle Memories). As I was reading this book, I had the feeling I had read these stories before and confirmed that I had when looking at the newer reprints. Burger is an excellent story teller and a very solid writer. I would think that had I read this book before I read the recent reprints that I would have appreciated it more, but I already knew the ending to several of the stories! It is well done, a fun read. I rate this an 8 out of ten, much like the rest of his books. However, I do not recommend this book if you have already read or purchased the recent reprints published by Safari Press. This is a nice collectable, but there is nothing new to the Burger fan in this book.

That is one of the great benefits of getting old. My memory is so bad, I sometimes cannot remember that I have read something before. Sort of like Groundhog Day, I get to read the book again and enjoy it anew. Mike
