The Luckiest Hunter Alive

If you think you're a lucky hunter, you haven't read George Naugle's book. And if you think you're not a lucky hunter, read it and you'll come away with a different perspective.

George Naugle is one of us, a fairly ordinary Pennsylvanian except that unlike most of us he has written a terrific book about his hunting adventures all over the world. He represents a life that many of us aspire to, not because he has a house full of Boone & Crockett trophies, but because he has taken the steps to do what we all want to do. A teacher by trade, Naugle decided that time was running out and he needed to begin going on some of the hunts he dreamed of. So, he made his plans, paid his money, took his chances, and turned out lucky.

His book wasn't written to make him famous, or to make him some money. It was written to give his grandchildren and their children a glimpse into what kind of man preceded them on this incredible planet. But, his book will do more than that. Many ordinary or even exceptionally good Pennsylvania hunters think a real hunting adventure is out of reach. If that's you, read Naugle's book and you'll realize that the hunting trip of a lifetime isn't very far away. In fact, he has done a real service to hunters who need that little extra push, that extra belief in themselves to take the steps to plan and carry out a western hunt, an Alaska hunt, or even an African hunt. Naugle's message to you is, "It's time to do it"!

In this collection of stories, Naugle communicates in a way that is so relaxed and easy that you'll feel like you're right along side him. I'm not saying he's another Jack O'Connor. And there are so many outdoor writers that I won't promise he'll be your favorite (unless you're in that special personal audience he's writing for), but you'll come away feeling like you want this guy to be your hunting buddy. Pick up a little of his attitude and appreciation for the hunt, and you'll realize just how lucky you are, too.

His stories of his hunts aren't the only story involved in this book. Naugle, when confronted with the reality that writing a book isn't easy, found a way to do it. He took the "self-publishing" route (not the same as "vanity publishing"), paying the bills himself. He isn't expecting to cash in on it, but it's definitely worth the $15.95 price tag. Unlike many books that are self-published, this one looks very professional well arranged, printed on nice paper, and even includes a section of photographs. Check out the publicity blurb at www.llumina.com/store/hunter.htm for more information.

Some of you may know George Naugle already, and not even realize it. He is a frequent poster on the AR message boards. Email him at gnaugle@comcast.net for an address where you can send payment. He'll ship the paperback for the $15.95 price plus $3.85 for Priority Mail a total of $19.80. The hardback is $26.95 George will ship it for $30.80 total. He'll sign your copy with a personal note if requested.

Trust me this is a book you won't want to put down when you realize that "the luckiest hunter alive" made his own luck, and you can, too. (Reviewed by Steve Sorensen)
