Fun read about a guy that started hunting elephants at age 17 in the 1950's. He is a Brit that worked hard to graduate from school early in order to pursue his dream of hunting in Africa. His father and uncle had told him stories of Sudan and what the wild country was like. He was a bit of a loner and estranged from his disjointed family but had a supporter in an uncle in Sudan. He spent a lot of his early years in Sudan and hunted among very dangerous and interesting people. He captured bongo in Kenya and shot a lion while wearing a tuxedo (he was at a party). He took over a 1000 elephant and had many interesting adventures. He was not your typical ivory poacher but a bit a naturalist as well.

It is a fun, easy read but ends too soon.

I rate it a 7 out of 10 and worth the time and money to read.

Although it's been a while since I read it, I remember it well and agree with your endorsement. It's a fine book.
