Just finished reading this very "to the point", practical, hands on book. Lou is a very experience PH with a career spent mostly in Zimbabwe. He gives very solid advice on hunting the dangerous game and some plains game. The bulk of the advice is for hunting in Zim, but can be used anywhere. In summary, he says - use the biggest gun you can shoot well (he likes the .458 Lott and shoots a .4790 NE double for himself), listen to your PH, plan and think how you are going to hunt your quarry and be realistic in your expectations of a trophy. I briefly met Lou at the Dallas Safari Club show a couple of years ago and was impressed with him and his honesty. Solid book. I think it is a bit over priced at $125 in a limited edition, but I found mine heavily discounted on the internet.

lou is quite a fellow - 1st time i met him my wife and me and his wife and lou were spending anight at a camp, both going hunting the next day. We were hunting adjoining areas. Lou mentioned this huge sable that lived on the border of the two areas. His hunter was ele hunting & I was after sable & buff. Anyway a few days latter we were coming back into camp driving down the border road when this herd of sable ran by, the end was the huge old bull and they ran into our area from his. We went out and shot the bull (46") then the next day when we met lou on the road , we thanked him for telling us about the sable and that we really appreciated shooting it. I do believe there was more blue smoke coming out of lou than there was out of the cruiser exhaust.
