"Gone Are the Days" by Peter Byrne - At 58 years of age and a life-long hunter, I can not recall, ever, such utter disappointment in a book, especially so, one so highly touted and priced. Oversized text with innumerable abbreviated chapters and half blank pages, in tandem with shallow characterizations, pedestrian insights and a finale incorporating commercial plugs for his current enterprises and the suggested offering of his rifle collection "to the highest bidder", leaves one with the distinct impression of being ripped off. The reading of this book was similar to the two hour viewing of a highly anticipated movie and waiting for something to happen. Not only is it dull, it contains little of real interest to the well read historian and nothing, whatever, to the hunter/adventurer wooed via the promotional text. My mistake, of course ... not to be repeated.

I just finished reading "Shikari Sahib" by Peter Byrne, the book is for some part about Jim Corbett and the locations of his maneating tiger kills. I like Corbett and wanted to know more about him; the chapters were abbreviated, and it all ended in a big add for his "Jungle Camp" 5 star, bus tours of where Corbett made the kills and a plug for the book you just read. It was gratifying to read your post as as we think alike on this writer. His "Jungle Camp" has put me off visiting the area,as it is only exploitative on his part. I am presently reading "Musings of an Old Shikari" by Glasfurd. A book of great value, and entertainment.
