Gentlemen, I was browsing for shooting books on the internet and came across two richly coloured coffee table type books which showed lots of top end rifle makers - metal smithing, stock work and scope mounts etc. I do not remember their names and did nt take notes. Of course, I cannot find the books now on Amazon / Alibris etc. Can anyone suggest the titles please? The books also had a discussion of the best work, their attributes and the reason some things were done that way - Miller scope mount etc. Thanks.

Probably the first one. 1 - Modern Custom Guns by Turpin 2 - Mastery of Wood & Metal (David Miller Co) also Turpin

There are two editions of Mr Turpin's book. The second is better IMO. You might also consider "Custom Rifles In Black and White" by Steven Dodd Hughes. While not in color, I believe the content is better (both in photography and writing). Don't get me wrong though...both are worth owning!
