Weak, very weak. I have an interest in hunting in Ethiopia, Cameroon and CAR. This DVD was touted as being a great one giving a good idea of what to expect going after bongo, mountain nyala and Lord Derby eland. The major problem with this piece is that the editor tried to stretch the length of the DVD by re-introducing the same pieces of video orver and over again. Several scenes were repeated 3 and 4 times. The mountain nyala hunt was a bust of Brittingham in the guise of 'he did not want to take an inferior animal'. It was apparent he was under time constraints and only was able to hunt 2 weeks. Great scenery was the highlight of this segment. In his efforts to take an LDE with a bow, he was busted several times and missed a shot at about 55 yards. He then switches to his rifle for the last day and takes an eland. He is unshaven whereas the PH is clean and washed up. THe sequence is tedious until he takes his shot. The video switches to an older hunter, not related to Brittingham who is a bit feeble but takes an eland, a red buff (Makes a Texas heart shot), and a nice warthog. The old guy seemed a bit dazed at times. The bongo sequence is very short. He gets his bongo with a bow but had a lot of camera trouble while in the jungle. In other words, he was unprepared for the "wet". All in all, an amatuerish production. I do not recommend this DVD or his Vol. 1. (it was so bad that I will not waste the electrons reviewing it. It is a home movie run amok!). My advice to Mr. Brittingham - watch one of Flack's DVDs or one of Buzz Charlton's to see some realistic work. I rate this a 2 out of ten (and am being generous).

That's unfortunate, dc. I have his Mongolian Argali hunt DVD and like it pretty good. Worth the cost of admission anyway.

Dogcat, That is the problem with so many of these videos -- they are nothing more than filming someone shooting something and then the trophy shot after the kill. There is a limit to how much of this anyone can stand. What sets Buzz's, Kevin Roberson's, etc. DVDs apart is that you can actually learn something from the DVD. I will take half the "kill shots" in lieu of some real information, the hint of a story, etc. Similar problem with the hunting shows on TV, at least Boddington tries to make his show somewhat informative. Agreed on all counts. Jack's argali DVD is worth getting just because it is unique and full of historical footage. _______________________________

I have this one and I have to tell you other than the typical Brittingham BS of reshowing the same thing over and over. I don't mind it as much as you guys do. Every article I read in Rifle, Rifleshooter, Guns and Ammo, Peterson's Hunting, Alaska Magazine, Sports Afield, Hatari Times, and any other gun rag is going to be one of two types. Some are how to and some are biographical. These Brittingham ones are almost all biographical. I used to have a Craig Boddington VHS tape where he hunted with Ed Weatherby for Cape Buffalo in Botswana. It was biographical and really good for it's age. We have a lot of TV shows cut to make a DVD. And these typically suck. Brittingham's are shot TV show style. The Safari Press only sells DVDs they think are a B or better. You will notice that not many of Jack's DVDs are on there.
