This thread seems to lack a great deal of interest. There is a world of writing out there that would be of interest to those of us who hunt and shoot, even though not directly related. Adventure, excitement, great reads. I throw these out.....Brad Thor, Ted Bell, David Hagberg, Vince Flynn, James Rollins, Daniel Silva....for starters.... Here's 3 I just finished that I can recommend to most people on this forum: "Six Years With the Texas Rangers"- Capt. Jim Gillett "Life of John Wesley Hardin as Written By Himself"- Wes Hardin "Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton"- Edward Rice NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

The problem with the lack of interest on this thread, as I see it, is that books and videos also get discussed in depth on other threads. Books with African themes, for example, pop up almost weekly in the African Hunting thread. Just recently, there was a long discussion about the best books for someone interested in African titles ... a subject that has been hashed and rehashed here many times. I don't follow the other threads, but I would suspect the same thing applies with books on subjects pertaining to hunting in America, Canada, Europe, etc., as well as the "special interest" titles pertaining to things like lever guns, double rifles, taxidermy, and so on. Another thought would be that the generation under 40 are not as avid readers as the those in the older generation. Too many distractions (internet, audio books, MTV, whatever) that take away time spent reading.

Typically that's true. I'm an exception to that as I am a full time professor and administrator, full time grad student and I still read more Africana than most people (including the average AR member). It's just a strong interest so I make time for it. I do wish there were more available on audio book as I drive a couple of hours per day. The Aagaard CD's were great because it was his voice and that wonderful laugh. I'm not interested in someone else narrating. I want to hear their own voices. Of course, many of the great voices are silent now but there are some great ones left...Harry Selby, Brian Marsh, Richard Harland, Barrie Duckworth, etc. _______________________________
