Sir Samuel Baker in at least two of his books vividly describes the hunting exploits of the Hamran Arabs in Africa. Armed only with a sword, these horse-borne hunters tackled everything up to elephant. In "Wild Beasts and Their Ways", Baker makes it a point to digress in his discussion of big game animals to relate the stories of these Arab hunters. Are there any books out there on big game hunting within the arabic culture? I ask because, in addition to the fascinating accounts by Baker, there is a deep and rich hunting history which continues today. And the arabs, much like the Irish, took pains to record and preserve historical events. There has to be some books out there. SCI Life Member DSC Life Member

Other than Baker's I know of none in English. Like you, though, I suspect there are plenty in Arabic. Bill Quimby
