Just finished reading Shadrek and really enjoyed it. Not much of a hunting story, but an interesting look inside Rhodesia in the late 60's and 70's. The first part of the book deals with a game ranger in Gonarezhou National Park on the Zimbabwe/Mozambique border as he tries to catch a notorious elephant poacher. The rest of the book (and the most interesting part) is about the growing battle between ZANLA and the Rhodesian Security Forces and the author and Shadrek's role. There is also a lot of detail about the Portuguese and FREMILO. A good read for anyone interested in Zimbabwe's history. Lots of elephant killing , but you will not learn much about elephant hunting. | ||
