Wow! Another great read by the King of the Kikuyu's. This guy is one of the toughest guys I have ever read about. He writes well, tells a great story that is more about where he goes and what he has done that just hunting. He explores places that were not seen by Europeans until the time of WWI. He knew Teddy Roosevelt, Selous, Osa and Martin Johnson and many others. One chapter of the book deals with an impromptu meeting of the Poachers of the Lado Enclave. He shares funny and unique stories told by each of the these early day explorers. I have no idea why this book and his first one (John Boyes - King of the Kikuyu's) are not considered some of the best reading about the early days in Africa. I like him much better than Capstick, on par with Corbett and Selous, similiar to Brian Marsh and TV Bulpin. Get this book, it is 200 pages and is a dandy. | ||
