My wife gifted me the second best personal gift being two new books.

1) Hunting wild sheep and goat; Arthur, George Myers; fast read I habpbe 100pages left. He is nothing if not burtially honest. The readers sees the authors ethics challenged and evolve before your eyes. He holds no punches about outfitters or his own shooting. I have at times been made uncomfortable by this narrative, but find the narrative enjoyable and educational. He provides Avery extensive gear list. In my humble and inexperienced opinion too exhaustive gear list. Ihave not done any of this type of hunting. This is a bad book for my Minister of Finance.

2) Boddington’s newest 10 year African book. I have only read the forward. I never knew Carter almost sent in Marines to support Sout African force against the Communist in the Angola civil war. I know folks have grown a jaundiced eye on Boddington in recent times, but I have no problem paying for his divorces. I enjoy him taking us on his travels and hunts.

His personal life? Everybody has problems...

When I'm ready to go, pack a bag of gunpowder up my ass and strike a fire to my pecker, until I squeal like a boar.

PS I have big boar on my floor...but it ain't dead, just scared to move...

I have finished the Sheep/Goat book. I am half way through Boddington. I will say, and I am not trying to start an argument, or say any side was right Boddington has not taken a Jack O’Conor Last Book shot at anyone with Sporting Classic Production. I appreciate that.

I have met (emphasis met) both Mr. Boddington and Mr. Fulson. They were both very cordial and kind to me. I think from a pure product stand point they were better together than apart. Life is life and time marches on.

His personal business is truly his own + not due to public scrutiny. As a divorcee myself I feel the financial anguish he must feel, but that has nothing to do with the printed subject matter. As an aside I will say that his daughter is one beautiful young lady;just like my own daughter + they both like to hunt. I call that a success in parenting.

I have 100pag s left on the Boddington book. He wrote it in 2016 from journals kept.

Interesting, he keeps trying to give a reason for his hunting in a certain area. This is done kind of tongue and cheek. In the last chapter about the Eastern Cape hunt, there about 3 chapters on different Safrais in the Eastern Cape, he jokes there is nothing in the E. Cape that would give him another tally to the Wheatherby Awrd that after a decade of being nominated he was not going to win. Then this year he won. He last excuse (his word) for repeated hunts in the E. Cape was a good time.

In the first Liberian chapter, he does recount an Outfitter very publicly, aggressively, verbally attacking him for not booking with him. I thought it was interesting. He did not in the narrative belittle or give it back to the Outfitter. He did name him. Since, this was a semi public incident. There was no point in hiding the name.

If I get to speak to Craig Boddington again, I am going to tell him not to worry about being perceived as hunting too many, high status animals. I want him to take 10 more lions, leopards, bears, another Grand Slam, whatever and tell us all about it.

I have one and a half chapters left. Then on to Bell.

My wife gave me From the Cape to Kasserine, Boddington's latest, for Christmas. Looking forward to reading it. Craig's the real deal and a real selfless guy. Early in my African hunting ventures he was very helpful to me with advice on temperatures and weather I could expect in a particular location at a certain time of year, necessary gear, etc.
