Three books about the Sutton-Taylor Feud in South Texas and John Wesley Hardin have been published in recent years and are considered definitive works on their subjects. These histories analyze the turmoil in reconstruction-era Texas and the hostilities between the carpetbagger government, Texas Rangers, freedmen, settlers & homesteaders, returning Confederate Civil War vets and the cattle thieves & outlaws who took over most of South Texas. As usual, the truth is stranger than fiction and anything conceived by Hollywood. Alot has been written on Wes Hardin and the blood feud but these books are much more detailed and no doubt were more thoroughly researched than previous works. Available on www.abe.com I highly recommend: (1) The Sutton-Taylor Feud- the Deadliest Blood Feud in Texas, Chuck Parsons, 2009 (2) The Last Gunfighter- John Wesley Hardin, Richard Marohn, 1995 (3) John Wesley Hardin- Dark Angel of Texas, Leon Metz, 1996 And of course, (4) The Life of John Wesley Hardin as Written by Himself, 1895 NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS.
