Hatari Times has a limited edition reprint of Dyer's book for sale. I bought one at Reno.
One Hundred Dollars. Fascinating book.

Haven't read it for a while but seem to remember it's a great read. If I remember correctly he and Ken Stewart now of Stewart Bullet fame were friends.

Original copies from US$37 & signed first editions from US$225 here:

I need a librarian to come in and arrange all my books so I can find things but it seems to me that I have two copies of that book somewhere and, although both are "first" editions, they were from different publishers. Do you know anything about this, Steve?

Bill,

I'll gladly volunteer to come in and sort them out for you but you might need to search me on my way out! Wink

Two first editions from different publishers is very unusual..... but right at the back of my mind, I seem to remember someone mentioning this before. - I can't for the life of me remember who or why though.

Give me a few days to try to remember what the story was and if I can manage any memory recovery, I'll come back to you.

On a related subject, if you want to read a great book by Tony Dyer, try to obtain a copy of "The East African Hunters." It was originally published by Amwell Press in a limited edition that quickly sold out. It is an outstanding book about many of the old time East African PHs.

Rich: Thank you. It was good to meet you after reading your posts here. Getting around is what I used to do. As you probably noticed, at age 74 with a bunch of health problems I now am mostly limited to where they rent mobility scooters. Glad you liked my book.

Steve: Measuring by the foot only, I estimate there are some 2,500 books on big game hunting and natural history subjects gathering dust around my winter and summer homes. I've been collecting them for more than a half century, and still am bringing books home. I just can't pass up a book that I don't have on this genre. Every now and then I find a real bargain. Just a couple of weeks ago, for example, I came across a copy of a like-new Rowland Ward record book that was originally published in 1962 and then rebound by the publisher to include new entries through 1966. It was in a Salvation Army store's bargain bookshelf and priced at $0.25!

Bill, I understand that you weren't the only one getting around the show on scooters. Word, is, some Texan was riding around in a golf cart, and had plenty of escorts wearing dark suits and earpieces. Cool

DLS,

You're a man with expensive tastes. Smiler

Cheapest copy of East African Hunters is US$405 here: http://www.shakariconnection.c...frica-authors-d.html
