If you were restricted to pre-1960 books, what ten would you declare indispensable, and why?

Something of Value'Ruarck...Green Hills of Africa,Hemingway...Islands in the Stream,Hemingway (posthumous but still applicable).Monte Walsh'Shaeffer.Huckelberry Finn ,Twain.Tarzan of the Apes,Burroughs,History of England,ChurchillAll of Jim Corbett's.....et al.As to why? I cannot answer that + refuse to as I am not in English Lit. anymore.It was a reasonable request however.Suffice to say though that I have read many more but time eludes me as to all the volumes.Oh yea ++he Iliad + the Odyssey + a couple of little dittys by Vergil,(forgot those in the beginning).
