A friend bought me this book for Christmas. I am about half way through the book at this point. Reitnauer has a very easy to read writing style and is good at painting mental images with words. He was born in the 1930's in Tanzania (in an area between current day Ruaha National Park and the Selous Game Reserve). His parents were German and the family bounced around a bit as result of World War II and its aftermath . . . but always living in East Africa. Raised hunting with his father he seems like a person that hunted because he loved to be outdoors and loved to enjoy different experiences. Good book. Worth a read.

Hey, you ever found that book by Nikolai Bajkov Big game hunting in Manchuria?

" Until the day breaks and the nights shadows flee away " Big ivory for my pillow and 2.5% of Neanderthal DNA flowing thru my veins.
When I'm ready to go, pack a bag of gunpowder up my ass and strike a fire to my pecker, until I squeal like a boar.

Finished the book a couple of days ago. Thought I would add a few parting observations. The first three-fourths of the book are a better read than the last one-fourth. The last part of the book suffers from what you sometimes see with authors . . . they run out of steam. The first part of the book the author is throwing his time and energy into the book then by the latter part of the book the author is just trying to get the darn book done. As a result long periods of time become compressed in a few pages. Almost a little of, "to make a long story short". Not the first time I have felt this happen reading books by hunters. Overall Kwaheri is still a very good book and one most folks will enjoy even though it does begin to run out of steam toward the end. Enjoyed the read.
