A book out by Stephen Hunter. Have been reading it for two weeks now. Good story and the author shows a knowledge of weapons - but what really got my attention is the hero of the story goes out and recruits some gun nuts to help him rid the world of some bad guys - and guess who he gets to help out? -so far a guy named Elmer Kayes and Jack O'Donnel (close enought) - both from Idaho - one is working on a new 44 caliber handgun load and the other is a rifleman with a love of 270's - wish my wife would leave me alone so I could continue reading this book and see who else shows up and just how well they perform - this author and the story has my attention

That is my new favorite Stephen Hunter book. He actually takes time to research ballistics and firearms data, to make his stories believable, as well as interesting. Awesome reading!

Jim Wilson( from shooting times) put me onto him last year when I was in Texas and stopped to visit him. Have read most his books since then and really liked The pale horse but the rest of the swagger books are also great reads.

Time to Hunt Hot Springs I have read all of Mr. Hunters books. He researches the gun parts and even covers reloading in a few books. Any of his books are a great read. BTW...he used to be Anti-Gun. My Strength Is That I Can Laugh At Myself, My Weakness Is That I have No Choice.

He just came out with a new non-fiction book. I forget the name but it was on the shelves at Barnes and Noble. Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

Go back a little further and find the Master Sniper While not politically correct, a very provocative read which shows his younger testosterone! You'll love Repp's style. One cold SOB. Having read all of Steven Hunters books except "The second Saladin" I would suggest you read in the following order 1. Point of Impact 2 Time to hunt (its not about you) 3 Dirty White Boys 4 Pale horse coming 5 Hot Springs 6 Havana 7 Black Light Each of these seven books are about two generations of the Swagger family. The first two books are about Bob Lee Swagger, a Viet Nam era Sniper, who could be modeled after Carlos Hathcock. Read Point of Impact first as it will give you the basis to understand a Time to Hunt, and make ATTH much more enjoyable I'll not discuss Dirty white boys as not to disclose the story, however, if you read Point of Impact before you read Dirty White Boys, it will make that book much more enjoyable books 4-7 are about Earl Swagger. I've listed them in a chronology as far as date. Black Light (book 7 on my list) was written before #4, #5 & #6 on my list, however read these before your read Black Light. Enjoy. GWB

"Point Of Impact" technical accuracy. For any one reading the Hunter books: On reccomendation of this post I started reading this book. Great fun read. However, it seems the author may have his bullet trajectory info backwards with regard to downhill(or uphill) shooting. If you care, to please look at the last paragraph of page 56. Here he is referring to compensating for severe downhill shooting implying that the bullet will drop more in that sitation relative to point of aim. I had always been taught the opposite was true.
