I have posted this subject before but it has been several years. For starters I recommend his African Trilogy, Being:The White Rhino Hotel,The cafe on the Nile,The Devils Oasis. All good reading. He also did a duo that is well worth your time. "Shanghai Station + China Star" ,dealing with some Cossacks leaving Russia in the rebellion to resetall in China in 1917. Highly recommended.You might have to go to Amazon as I think some of these are out of print.Worth your while though,I promise. Never mistake motion for action. | ||

+1 It seems we had a discussion here not so long ago. Bull is a lawyer by profession but he is also a great writer. His writing is far deeper than Wilbur Smith's IMO. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. Recently finished the first two books in the Bartle Bull triology based on this forum. They are great reads , also introduced co-workers to this author. Now reading Kamarjo Safari by Bell.This forum is a good reference for African related authors. | |||

Thanks for correcting my mis-spelling. Spell check has ruined a many good spellers. With respect to Bell, it is mind blogging to learn how many natives, supplies and donkeys it took to head off on a 14 month safari in the early 1900's. | |||

I just finished reading a book called "Safari" by Bartle Bull. About the early days of hunting in Africa. Interesting book and well written. | |||

Swainscreek, in regards to your comment on the size of Bell's Safari. I am reminded of a quote from an old hunting buddy of mine concerning that famous picture of Frederick Selous sitting in camp on that big straight backed wooden chair. His comment was,"You know,every day some bearer had to tote that chair over half of Africa." Never mistake motion for action. | |||
