Wow! This is a delight and one of the best books on hunting of any kind I have read in a long time. This is NOT a "how to hunt sheep" book. It is a collection of unique stories about the people and the animals that make North American sheep hunting one of the top hunt/sports we can enjoy. North American sheep hunting is a tight knit fraternity of the real pros and the wannabees. The pros are that sullen bunch that huddle together at the sheep conventions, converse in whispers and share virtually no information with the rest of us. The wannabees ae the crowd that are dying for any morsel of info that will get them to a good sheep area or insight in getting a tag or that mystical guide that will lead them to that 180" ram. This book opens the door on the "cloak of invisibility" on this and gives the reader a lot of info that you should know already. First, there are no secrets. Do your research and go where the sheep are. This info is in the public domain and you just have to mine it. Second, get in shape. You can't hunt if you can't climb. Third, be able to shoot. You can't kill a ram if you can't shoot. Fourth, hire the best outfitter you can. There is a story of a your man who died in a mysterious fall in 1966 while hunting alone. The story is a tear jerker. Fifth, go. This book lays a lot of fun facts about big horns in Alberta and the men that hunted them. There are a jillion pictures that make the book fun to read and look at. This one is worth having. | ||
