A fairly new DVD about Dall Sheep hunting in Alaska by a young guide (Rick French). I would call it a semi-professional type dvd as he is a guide and shot the bulk of the video on hunts he guided or was the actually hunter. Editing was average to good with some very good hunting and "shot" footage. In the slow motion re-plays, you could see the bullet in the air prior to impact. I was amazed at that. Overall, it was 11 hunts with a variety of clients in several areas in Alaska. Most of it was in the shale- scree type of mountain terrain. It looked hard to navigate to a flat lander like me. I liked it and was impressed with the terrain and hunting method. It lacked a little "how to" info I am used to on Boddington or Flack DVD's. There was no discussion of equipment or rifles or conditioning. It was just hunting with some commentary. Overall, I would rate it a 7 out of ten with "Perfect Shot" or Buzz Charlton's Elephant dvd or Boddington on Buffalo being a 9 or 10. It was worth the price and I can recommend this one to avid sheep hunters or wannabees.

Rick's dvd was excellent. It didn't need any of the "how to" stuff it wasn't that kind of dvd. Take a look in the Alaska section, I started another thread on this there about 2 weeks ago.

D99, Sorry, I had missed your review. I liked the dvd and would like to hunt with this guy. I was amazed at how you could see the bullet in-flight. Must be a good camera.

Yes, it's Rick (not Ken) French. He's a great guy and although he gets clients onto some nice sheep, as well as goats and bear, he is very serious about giving clients a good overall experience. In other words, he'll find you the best sheep he can but he's not into inches over the experience itself. That's the kind of person I want to go hunting with. Filming mountain hunts is a whole different critter than filming hunts on flat ground. There are so many technical problems related to how to get the camera setup while filming in off-piste, off-camber situations...I don't know how Rick does it as well as he does. Very few people have attempted to make good sheep videos. That's why Rick's is one of the best available. That's also why Rick is booked through 2011 and turning down bookings further than that. _______________________________
