Hi, I have just completed reading the above book by Walt Prothero. It is full of action and entertaining reading. What was very dissapointing to me was it was more about trophy collecting than hunting - driving around, finding a sizeable trophy, dismounting, shooting, loading up the carcass and on to the next desired trophy. Mr. Prothero is at pains to confirm that trophy measurements mean nothing to him yet every animal shot is carefully measured and commented on. His PH is not very good at size judgement either! In each and every case he grossly over estimates the size of the animal much to the author's chagrin. To sum up, not the best book i've read but does have some interesting anecdotes.

Yeees... In a recent article in an American Mag, Walt describes his PH as " A tyro". Man in question is an ex parks culling officer with 18 years experience as a PH after leaving parks. Asked him about the incident, and he simply said that the client was too bussy arguing about weather the ele would make 50lbs a side when it turned and ran for the park boundry, so walt never got a shot off. Methings Walt needs to read Lou Halimores book " In the Salt" on the way things actually are.

Hi Ganyana, The main culprit (PH) was a fellow named Richards operating in Tanzania.
