There are several that come to mind. I thought Nisa: The Life and Words of a Kung Woman was pretty good.

Elizabeth Marshal Thomas also had an interesting book on the Bushmem. I believe it was called The Harmless People.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Beautiful... thanks JBrown. If you think of any more, please let me know. Or any other books on the indigenous peoples of Africa for that matter.

If you google "Bushmen" on Amazon, you get a variety of choices. As JBrown noted, Elizabeth Thomas Marshall is a good source, and she has several books on the Bushmen. She did some good fieldwork, and I think it was back in the 50s.

Laurens van der Post is another author to check out.

Hans-Joachim Heinz "Namkwa" is a good one.

Marlin Perkins and his wife did one in the 60s that is more of a kids book, but worth reading none-the-less.

There is an anthropological film service where you can buy DVDs that are worth watching. If I can remember the name of it, I'll post it.

Thanks Dr_dog...

Believe it or not, my local half price books had Nisa and the Harmless people in stock for 2 bucks each! I LOVE half price books, found a first edition Pondoro there too!

Yeah I'm a bookaholic...was shocked that they had both in stock. I paid 18 bucks for the Pondoro book. I have lots of fun finding books like this. The internet has made things easy, but a bit less fun in my opinion when it comes to the serendipitous nature of browsing through bookshelves.

I was a bookaholic for years. Where I live now the used book stores aren't nearly as interesting as larger cities and college towns. I also started joining groups that actually expected me to do something, so my reading time is seriously diminished. Nevertheless,I'm still buried in books. We could start a group? Hello, my name is Chuck and I'm a bookaholic....!
