Another great read and a lot of fun to boot! Just finished Buffalo, Elephant and Bongo by an adventurous German doctor, Reinald von Meurers. An amazing book about his self guided safaris in Cameroon after elephant and buffalo. He organizes his crews from the locals, makes all his own arrangements and takes off into unknown areas using a compass, maps and a GPS. He mostly after elephant, having taken 21 in 25 trips. He has the Rowland and Ward number 1 and 2 Bay Duiker. He truly is the minimalist. The book was published in 1999 but ends in 1996. He is about 60 now and still hunts. He is a good writer and very descriptive of the terrain, people and "heart" of the hunt. He tells of using is .460 Weatherby with reduced loads to take all types of game including guineas. He is a very skilled hunter and tells his tales well. I recommend this book and rate it 8 out of 10 for its uniqueness and the quality of story telling. Well worth the price from Safari Press.

Dogcat, I agree with you his book is excellent, great detail, like his do it yourself approach. Terry Cacek is also a Dr and has done the same thing and has 2 books that are also good reads. Solo Safari is one ,can't recall the other right now.
