Pichon 1, again; I await your resume. Please list all of the rifle actions you are building, plan to build, or anything of a similar nature. Next, list the results of your last ten African safaris in terms of game taken. Perhaps, the last ten double rifles you have owned...? Ahhh, cat got your tongue? Such modesty ill becomes you. Tomo577 is building rifle actions, has a new version under prototype construction, likely has more time sitting on the shitter while on safari in Africa than you have total time huntingbig game, and at $10 per head viewing fee; you probably couldn't afford to see all of his trophies in a year. Pardon me for being a bit critical of your experiences...it's just how I am with people like you. Rich

Tommo577 I see you shout your ignorance in capitals... Brian Marsh has never been a game ranger and never involved in wildlife conservation in any role except as a PH. He started his career cropping Buffalo for meat and crocks for hides, before becoming one of the first three professional Hunters licenced in Rhodesia (along with Peter Johnstone and Robbie Robertson in January 1967). You may not like his writing style (cannot say I do particularly) but the man has “been there, done that†far more than Taylor or Capstick. He certainly shot more buffalo and possibly more elephant than those two combined. He just isn't into boasting...

Ganyana, et al, but he was into gay bashing people he called friend and benefactor at one time. Sounds like a commercial meat hunter that stepped up one grade. I have to wonder about a man that would take the time to document another man's sex life, not have the guts to publish it under his own name, and then persuade a by then washed up PH turned barfly into "jazzing it up a little" so as to be able to makes some money out of the deal. I think I see one more great expose for brian marsh, how about one chronicling his adventures with the women, married, single, client's wives etc, he bedded. It could be a fantastic compendium if he had thought to record measurements, hair color, position preferences, etc. Maybe toss in a couple of polaroids from the golden era? It would have to be as interesting a read as Taylor's peccadilloes. I have greatly enjoyed Pondoro's books, there is a lot of knowledge to be garnered from those pages. Capstick on the other hand, while a diverting read on a rainy afternoon; hands down very little in the way of useful information...once you get past the clothing list and how much to tip your PH. Obviously people disagree about writing styles, Taylor was too busy hunting to do a muckraking job on anyone else then...or at any point in his sad, later life. It is just difficult for me to find anything of character in a man who spends years of his life documenting someone else's sexual preferences...and then wants help turning it into a book. JMHO, and no reflections on either as a hunter...just as a man. Rich

Idaho Unfortunately, Being queer was Taylors downfall. It was THE reason Moçambique, Rhodesia, Nyasaland, and even South Africa wouldn't let him back. It wasn't the poaching- He actually poached very tillte, and generally bought the regular game licenses or- within the Federation and Tanzania worked within the system with the District commisioner. The CHief Justice of Southern Rhodesia at the time would never convict any one of poaching - Sir Hugh Beadle couldn't drive past an elephant even in Hwange park without shooting it... But being queer... For that crime, and that alone, the Southern African Community broke him and the "regular" establishment back in the UK denied him work. Sodomy is still a criminal offence here with a minimum mandatory 2 year sentence. It is a topic which commands undue attention here, and because it was so central to defining why Taylor went from war hero to out cast it had to feature in the book.

I wonder if Idaho Sharpshooter has read "Pondero." Capstick and Marsh DID NOT bash gays, especially Taylor, in that book. His homosexuality was presented matter-of-factly without comments, even implied comments. Any biographer who did not bring up his sexual preference would not have been doing his job, especially since it was no secret then or now. Speaking of bashing, what do you have against authors? I knew Peter Capstick and accepted that he was an alcoholic. To condemn him for this disease simply ignores that he also was extremely talented. I've only met Brian Marsh a couple of times, but I can tell you he does not deserve what you've said about him. In my limited time with Marsh I found him to be a true gentleman. Bill Quimby

Ganyana. Why don't they arrest and convict Mugabe of sodomy? The bastard buggered the whole country. And the Sharpshooter from Idaho. Tell us what you have written and where the book(s) are published. Easier to tell then if you know from what you speak. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." To say that being Gay is a reason for not reading an author would surely limit out reading. It would also limit our movies. Weren't a lot of the English hunters Gay. I've heard that Bell and Lyel were, although never seen anyproof. I didn't like the writing style of either Warrior or Lion. Lion did seem to be more focused on the negative than the positive. Sort of a debunking of the Legend.
