My family has always been readers, but I could not imagine why we had a book on the health care economy in Nazi Germany sitting in the book shelf since it came out in 1947. I was always kind of repulsed by it. I decide to take a look and couldn't put it down, although the stats are a bit tedious. The parallels between the VA and Obama care are stunning. Example - Doctors and farmers working in arms factories because there were too many of them at the beginning of the regime. Where the governments ideal ratio was about 1 doctor to 1700 patients, it soon grew ten fold or more prior to bring in slave labor. This caused a rise in previously rare illnesses due to lack of proper food and medications. By the middle they needed the farmers, but the land was not available or required too much to make it produce. Also many of the farmers and doctors had to be re-educated due to a poor outlook caused by being re-assigned. Some made the cut at political re-education, some didn't. Before it starts, I'm not comparing anyone to the nazi's, nor saying we are becoming nazi's. I just found it a very interesting review of how fast a country's healthcare can decline. | ||
