Just finished reading two books about the Apaches in the 1860's - 1880's. The first was The Apache Wars by Paul Andrew Hutton. The second was Blood Brother by Elliot Arnold. The Apache Wars was published last year and is a non-fiction history. Hutton is a pretty good storyteller and the book does not read like some painful non-fiction history books can read. Blood Brother was published in 1947 and is a novel focused around the relationship between Cochise and Tom Jeffords. Written with a bit of a sympathetic ear to the Apaches it is nevertheless an enjoyable book. It was the basis for the movie with Jimmy Stewart, Broken Arrow. Both good books if you have any interest in the Indian wars in the the Southwest. Mike

You have to give some respect to these people. In the early 70s' I used to go on back packing trips through Big Bend. How those Apaches survived I have no idea because there was NOTHING to eat;but they did it.They have my respect. Never mistake motion for action.
