With all the rage surrounding Savages new 20ga 220F, I was considering buying one as I always wanted a 12ga 210F. I have looked at all the published VPS data of 12ga VS 20ga sabots (I subtract a average of 125fps from all published sabot FPS data) and I do not see any advantage of the 20ga over the 12 except for recoil and I tolerate recoil extreamly well. AS far as my reserch gos, the 12ga (at leat on paper) is balisticly superior to the 20ga all the way out to 200yrds. 20ga sabots cost the same as 12 so there is no advantage there. So bottom line my question is this: Does anyone have proof posative the 20ga sabot slug is as good if not better than the 12ga sabot slug? I still strongly belive that the 12ga is a better all around slug in terms of killing deer out to 200yds or less than a 20ga. I have killed enough deer at 180-200yrds to know a 12ga sabot has both the accuracy and killing power to ethicly kill deer out to 200yrds, but have zero experience with the 20ga. All my deer killed at 180-200yrds were shot with 12ga 2.75" Winchester P-Golds. All were DRT all were compleat pass throughs. All left large exit holes. Because 12ga A-Bolts are selling for well over $1000, I am most lilely going to sell mine so I can finance buying my sons their first deer and turkey guns, and the 220F with its light recoil seems about perfect for them for deer, but I would still like to get myself the 210F. What do you all think? Thanks, Arthur. | ||
