While sorting through my storage room came across some old 16 gauge ammo that my Dad had stock piled years ago. In 1950 he purchased an Ithaca Model 37 in 16 gauge. Since he passed away I've taken it pheasant hunting behind dogs a couple times. Only thing I've done to it was have it's original full choke opened up to about improved cylinder. Today I took his Model 37 to the local gun club and shot two rounds of trap with it. The ammunition used was an assortment of vintage paper-hulled stuff, nothing less than 40 years old. Everything chambered and ejected, broke 19 and a 20. Only one of the rounds seemed a bit weak. The trap boy had never seen a 16 gauge or rolled crimp paper loads. It was slow at the club so it was a good opportunity to talk to him about John Browning, rabbit hunting with beagles, and how some stuff over 10 years old wasn't designed to be disposable. | ||
