Does anyone make a modern double barrel 10 gauge anymore? I'd really like a O/U but could settle with a SxS I guess. I know they make 12 gauge 3 1/2 doubles but a double 10 would be a nice addition to my 10ga BPS. Thanks! "Molotov Cocktails don't leave fingerprints" -Dr. Ski

I don't know if they're still being made but many of the Spanish SxS's are/were made in 10ga. AyA, Ugarteachea (spelling?), and some others. If you can find an Ithaca NID field grade in 10 then your all set.

Well I don't think there is anyone who makes a 10 ga SxS or an O/U either for that matter. You could probley order a custom shotgun from over sea's {Bespoke}. This would take some research, and a lot of money. As for used 10 ga's. I have tried a bunch of them. Since you have a 10 ga already {with one barrel}, I would suggest that you look for an Over and Under. The brands to look for are Richland Arms and Armi San Marco. Everybodys differant, but I am more accurate with a O/U then I am a SxS . The Ithica 10 Ga. NID { New Ithica Double } is a great shotgun. There were very few made. If you plan on waterfowl hunting with one of these then I wouldn't shoot any steel shot or anything that could harm the barrels. The Ithica NID's are a rare bird. I could be wrong but I think Elmer Keith had one. The Browning BPS is built hell for stout. A pain in the ass to clean. They are a great 10 ga. A hell of alot better then the Ithica Mag 10 autoloader. You will like the O/U. Well Im done now...

I ran across a mention of one by Baikal today. The reference was maybe 5 years old. Remington is the sole importer of those now, under the line name SPR, and I don't think a 10 is among them. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."

Zabala and other Spanish makers do them in SxS. I have a Zabala with 32" barrels, full choke. Big thick recoil pad. Ed MZEE WA SIKU

I just ran across your post so it may be late info. My friend wanted a 10 for sculling ducks. He got a double SxS Ithica Silver snipe as I recall. He said that the thing was brutal to shoot for ducks. All his friends said the same. He finally got an Ithica auto 10 and was quite pleased. He attributed the pain and suffering to the design of the stock. He figuired he had killed 10,000 ducks so he was not a tenderfoot in the recoil department. I use a Rem SP 10 for coyotes and for sculling ducks. It swings like a 10 ft 4X4 but if you get over that, it works great. Let us know the results if you get a two barrel.

I had an O/U double 10 back in the 80s, at the time I was pretty insensitive to recoil and it still kicked like a mule. I relatively quickly went to an Ithaca Mag10. I had another buddy who had a similar gun in S/S, we both shot quite a bit, after a while his started to double, which would really get your attention. We gave up on double 10s shooting heavy 3 1/2s. YMMV. Point is, they are around, question is, do you really want one? I'd suggest you try one of the Browning pump 10s, basically same recoil, and if you can stand that for long, consider moving to a double. If you really want to shoot serious 10 ga, I'd suggest a semi-auto and this is from a dyed in the wool double (O/U) man. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. My father had one of the Ithaca doubles many years ago, this was the original 10Ga 3 1/2" mag. Only problem he ever had was finding shells for it, said he would order them by the case so as to be sure to have a supply. He killed a lot of geese with this gun and always said he liked it better than any gun he had ever used if he had the mag shells but if he had to use the short ones, 2 7/8", he would rather have his 97 Winchester pump. Also did not like to duck hunt or carry the big double. I don't know what the gun weighed but I have a picture somewhere of me holding it, I must have been about 5 years old and it was as tall as I was. It had 32" barrels, both choked full and Dad always said it should have come with two little wheels and a rope so you could pull it along like a cannon. As an aside, I really can see no reason for the big 10 today as long as we have the super shells with steel shot, the various exotic metals approved for waterfowl, etc. I have hunted for some 8 seasons now with a SBE and I must tell you I can see no difference between shooting waterfowl with the 3 1/2" and the 3" shells in this gun. I don't mean to steal the thread here as it is about SXS 10 ga guns but thought that was worthy of inclusion. And IF I did want a 10Ga, I would look long and hard at the BPS - just the humble opinion of an idle mind with a lot of years behind me and much time spent in the blind. Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!! 'TrapperP'
