I have a Rem 870 that I put camo tape on a couple years ago. I like the way it looks, but the tape is bleeding sticky goo and pealing in a couple spots.

I am considering removing the tape. Deguing the gun and then painting the wood and gun with a ordinary enamel flat paint.

Any thoughts? Are there better options for making my gun camouflaged?

If you choose to do it yourself, Wally World has camo paint packages and so do most hunting outlets. This is a flat paint and will not reflect as much light as regular enamel.

Hints
Clean gun thoroughly and degrease surfaces to be painted.
Disassemble gun and mask off or grease moving parts. Do not allow paint into the action, safety button, trigger, barrel, or on the slide bars or magazine tube.
Hang the prepared parts at about shoulder level from rafters, tree limbs, etc.
Spray light even base coat of the lightest color paint. Usually light tan or gray. Allow ample drying time and touch up if needed.
Depending on your selection of colors which will probably be three to four total, with black being the darkest.
Add irregular patterns (spots, S, stripes) of black, but don't over do it. Be sure and use small and large. Add other colors after allowing each to dry. You want the base coat to show through this pattern. Remember less is better.
Now don't drop it in the leaves or you will have a tough time finding it.

I was thinking of only doing the wood with brown, tan, and a touch of gray. The gun is parkerized.

For turkey, do I need to do the rest of the gun?

Drop the gun. Dont I have to peal potatoes, if I drop my gun?

No, wood only is fine if you are working with a flat finish metal. I strongly recommend some flat black in with your camo color selection to give it depth. It will only take a small amount since the metal will be black.

Peeling spuds! Only if you're in the military and then you will have to go through the little speech about your rifle and gun; one is for shooting and the other is for [Wink] fun.
