7x57, How is the quality on it? What did you pay for it (we won't tell your wife, lol)? Is it up to par for it's price tag? Geez, I had forgotten I posted this thread... Thanks for the responses fellas. I'm very interested in finding a nice double for under $2k and I'm hoping the Ruger is a winner.

458, I am happy with the Gold Label, I took it in the field this fall and it was a pleasure to carry. The fit and finish is comparable to that of the Red Label shotguns, maybe a little better in the wood to metal fit, and the checkering is definately nicer. I bought it because I was looking for a classic shotgun that "could do it all"....or do most. I like the interchangable chokes, something that you don't get with a vintage double, and the ability to shoot steel shot. I like the blueing on the barrels (it looks like the blue found on older American doubles) and the single selective trigger. Now, for the dislikes...When the shotgun is dis-assembled the action looks "chinsy" due to the shape of the casting...I understand that it probably keeps the weight down and cost of production, but it just doesn't look like a nice Fox or Parker. Also the wood isn't very fancy...it is nice straight-grained walnut...much nicer than most guns these days but I have seen Red Labels and Number 1's with much more figured wood. Personally I like the wood that is on it but some people have commented on it. For the amount spent on it ($1700) you could find a nice used American double but you would not have the features such as...ejectors, single trigger, and choke tubes. It all depends what you are looking for. All in all I am pleased with my purchase...it is the return of a nice "Field Grade" American double that I hope to use and pass on to my grandkids someday. I would be happy to take any pictures if you would like. Jon

7x57, Wow, thanks for the detailed review, I appreciate the info and am strongly considering getting one. I too would like a high quality field grade SxS for all-purpose use on upland game. I'm a huge Ruger fan and this would certainly fit into my simple but useful collection of arms that are nearly all Rugers nowadays. Their utter reliability and brute strength have never failed me in my M77's and my No 1. I'm sure a SxS shotgun would follow in the same tradition. If you can share some pics I'd be very grateful. You can email them to me if it's a hassle to attach here. If you have a digital and have not yet snapped the pics can you focus on some close-ups of the action area, forearm and butt/stock? Thanks so much!

Check with Praco Pawn in Waco Texas.I know for a fact they have recieved two Gold Labels, they had one in inventory when I was in there in late September. They did tell me that the first one sold within two hours of them recieving it so I'd be suprised if they still have one.

458, I don't own a digital camera, but I can borrow one from a friend. I will try to borrow it this week and take some pics for you. Jon
