I found out about these guns on the web and for the money - about $800 they look great. Full scroll engraving side plates etc on a 12 gauge 3" sxs. Anybody have one?? What do you think. They are made in Turkey and imported here by Dehaan who, when I spoke to him said he goes over every one checking for proper operation and even doing a little tweaking. Any thoughts? BTW this will be a working field gun so I don't want to spend the money for a Beretta, etc.

Mark DeHaan is a gentleman who tries to provide a decent product. The Huglu has taken a bashing here, in part because they deserved it.

Huglu is capable of making some very nice custom guns and also turning out junk. The reason Mark has to go over every gun is because Huglu has very poor quality control in their plant. A lot of service men have gone over seas to return a Huglu. Most of those are pure junk. I purchased a gun through Mark some time ago. I never did get to see it. Straight from the factory it would double. Mark had 3 separate smiths work on it, at his expense. No dice. I finally asked for refund, which he quickly took care of.

Some time later, I held the guns in my hand. I was not impressed at any price with them. Don't get me wrong. The problem I have with purchasing one is that I will never come close to reselling it at 50% of what I would pay for it.

I have several shotguns. They include some old damascus barreled american classics as well as some newer guns. I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon with 2 sets of barrels, 12 ga and 28 ga.

I also own a Russian made Baikal. For under $400 it has proven to be a good field gun for quail, pheasant and even the occcasional goose hunt. If you are on a tight budget and looking for a decent o/u I would recommend it.

Stevens has also entered into a partnership with Baikal and is now marketing the Stevens 411 which is a Baikal gun with some extras and the Stevens name.

If I were looking for a used gun, I would get an SKB model 100 or 200. They are sxs guns that go for about $500 in 12ga. I have model 100 in 20ga that makes a great grouse gun at under 6 lbs.

Hope this helps some.

Pete

The guns Mark De Hann was selling are entirely different from the guns the GI's were bringing back from Turkey, kinda the Savage 311 of Europe. Marks guns are a much better quality than those for the European market.I bought his low grade 20 ga.SxS,extractors, double triggers and 5 screw in chokes and I love it.It is like a death ray.In one season I fired it at game19 times and killed 15 doves and 2 pheasants. It's the best $600 shotgun I have ever owned. Should have bought the same gun in a 28 ga.although the 20 has done all I have asked of it.
