Noticed that Browning is now offering their bolt gun for slugs w/ 2rnd detacheable magazine.
Not cheap at some 1200.00, but drilled and tapped for scope, plus iron sights and curious if anyone has seen or owns one?? Believe some years ago they offered same, but for those limited to slug guns for deer, etc. should be a good outfit. Rifled barrel and curious about accuacy at say 100+ yds.

I owned a Savage 210 for years. Ed Hubel conned me out of it. His 12 gauge from Hell test bed.

Mine, with the Lyman Sabot Shocker Slug (hollow base, looked like a wasp-waisted air rifle pellet) was designed to weigh 530gr. So what? That is an ounce and an eighth, and fit in the standard trap load cushion. I cut a quarter of an inch off the petals, and could hand load the cushion and then the slug in my Hornady 366.

Any way, I loaded it to 1700fps or so, and sub-2moa accuracy at a hundred yards. I'd have to go measure one, but seems like they were about .700" diameter. Soft, about 40:1 lead/tin alloy. In whitetail deer, from 70-100 yards, they would mushroom to over an inch diameter, and just flatten a 200+lb deer.

The Browning should do as well, but at more than twice the cost of the Savage...

It is common place for fully rifled shotgun barrel with optics and sabot slugs to group 1 to 3" at 100 yards. You may need to try several different brands but hunting accuracy can go outwards of 200 yards in the hands of a competent marksman. The days of the 50 yarder slug shotguns is over.

I have one of the original Browning Abolt slug guns and it is great. I have dropped deer like a sack of hammers at 165 yards. They will each perform better with a different sabot, so keep that in mind.
I would have no hesitation to buy one! Infact, the new MSRP is less than what the originals were bringing on the used market before Browning announced their re-introduction.........

I own both a original 12ga A-bolt and a Mrlin 512 Slug Master. I had a trigger job done on the 512, re-crowned, and bedded.

Bottom line is they both are dead even for accuracy. Both are solid 1.5" 100yrd guns.

I love both and but I would be hard pressed to spend $1000 on the A-Bolt when $550 will get me in a Savage with Accutrigger. Were are not talking 300-400yrd guns here. 200-225yrds is max IMHO for ethical hunting with 12ga sabot ammo so there is little justification IMHO for the $1000 A-Bolt as the near DBL cost doesn't give you anything extra from a purely functional stand point.

All my future slug guns will be Savage's, at least one, possibly 2 for my sons.
