I have handled one, but never shot it. In my view you can probably pay a little more for a new or about the same price for a used Merkle, AYA or other higher end double and have a much better gun. NRA Patron member

I saw one in the Ft Worth Cabela's last night for $3400. What a joke. I paid that for my Charles Boswell sidelock. You can find a LOT of nicer guns for that money.

I have one that is my magic wand for wingshooting. You won't find a better gun except that it has a single trigger. It's not pretty, but it does the job. I would not sell mine for $3100 but I wouldn't pay that for another one. I'd say that $2500 is about right. Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

I fixed one for a local shooter last year. He likes it. He must really like it,,He put up with the hassle of sending it back to Ruger 4 times to try & get it right... and they never did. It doubled on him when it got to me. Occasionally very light trigger pull(s). That's the reason it had gone back to Ruger those frequent trips for repair. I could see where it had been apart before and carelessly so IMHO. Re-assembly wasn't done w/any better care with the left rear edge of the frame well nicked in driving one of the pins out. No fault of the gun of course. I fixed that up for him before returning it. One nice thing about stainless.. The problem was primarily the left bbl sear engagement. I recut both sides and fixed a problem with the selector. The sear engagement does have one nice feature in that the frame is designed with a small viewing hole on each side. So the otherwise out of sight feature is easily seen. This is with the wood off of course. But if you're not looking for the right problem or don't know what you're looking at,,it doesn't do you much good. The interior parts are all investment cast stainless w/ minimum machining done to fit. It's quite unlike the normal SxS w/single sel/trigger mechanism you normally see doing repairs. The owner and others that have shot it mentioned that they are not a fan of the trigger selector. He even wanted to know if the current single selective trigger could somehow be converted to a simple double trigger. Not easily and not cheaply! The auto safe feature was a thumbs down from him also.,,I hear that from a lot of shooters though. Sometimes they can be removed or disabled in guns. Not this one from what I saw. I don't exactly recall now how it was tied in, but it didn't look to be removeable w/o disabling the trigger. Lawyer proofing at work in our times most likely. The wood to metal fit was strictly as machined. No hand fitting that I could see,,and it needed some for sure for better contact. A bolt on configuration. I do remember there was some wood 'saw dust' in the mechanism when I removed the butt stock. A very tiny amount and I couldn't see any place that it could have come from in that stock. No fresh cuts machined or otherwise. Everything sprayed over with finish. Maybe just something picked up on the bench during reassembly. The bbl's were not very well blued,,heavily matted rust blued to the point of being pitted. No 'short rib' under the forend between the forend lug and the bbl flats. He said the bbl's were Factory replacments,,done on it's first trip back to Ruger, but I didn't pursue that any further for a reason why they were replaced. I would have given up on the thing at that point,,,but he likes the gun dispite all of this. He shoots it very well. Since it's final repair he's had no further problems and uses it on SC nearly weekly. I told him to bring it back if it ever acts up again.. Just my experience w/the one and only GL I've had apart. I shot a few rounds of skeet with it after repairing it to test it out & before returning it. To be truthful I was concentrating more on the functioning of the gun and any potential problems than hitting targets. I can't really give an opinion on the handling quality or lack of. I'm sure I looked very dapper with it though.

Thanks for the response. I was not really looking for one but it was listed on a local board. I did pick up a nice A5 in 20 today though.
