Skeet and Trap Loads for AA Hulls and Federal Gold Medal Hulls
I want to get some formulas for 12 Guage Skeet and Trap Loads using AA hulls as well as Federal Gold Medal hulls for 1 oz. shot columns 2 3/4 dram equiv.

Powder, Wads and Primers

Also, same information for 1 1/8 oz shot column and 3 dram equivalent.

What is the latest and greatest powder and why?

Thanks in advance.

There are no latest and greatest powders, at least for clay target shooting. Clays and Red Dot are still the most popular, and for good reason. I like Solo 1000 for 12 ga. and Longshot for 20 ga.

As to loads, you will have to test patterns (at least causally) to find what load your gun and chokes like best. Most of the major powder mfgs. have their manuals on the web, along with much other good information. You will have your pick of thousands of loads.

Exactly as Holtz said--no magic, unless the gun patterns best with it.....Chuck

Check out the powder manufacturer sites (hodgdon.com, alliantpowder.com, etc).

In general, it is best to keep tapered hulls (STS and AA) with wads designed for those (AA and Rem wads), and the straight wall cases (gold medal, cheddite) with wads designed for them (i.e. fedS3, etc). I've been buying titewad powder, and it seems to do well -- a bit dirty, but no dirtier than say the Red Dot from 10 years ago. JMO, Dutch.

I like the Remington STS hulls best. Win AA's are OK, but the new ones are two-piece. I prefer the one-piece hulls.

WAA12 wad, Hodgdon Clays powder, and Win 209 primers.

As the others have suggested, go to Hodgdon's website for load data.

Clays burns pretty clean for me. Seldom anything left in the barrel but plastic on the choke tube.
