i shot a lefever for years, then went to a 16GA drilling last fall and it was wonderful handleing and no precived (bothersome) recoil.. i started this year with the sxs 12 lefever and it was biting me on the cheek, other wise exceptional trap gun.. it has stock cut off slightly at 90 degrees from comb, and i putt spacers and tripple x butt pad on it.. pull is long for mounted trap. it has recoil reducer inside stock. the pitch seems like it could be the problem if its not the pad.. the thirty inch barrel sets 2 3/4 inches away from the wall at end of thirty inch barrel...the drilling has about 20-25 percent less pitch.. any suggestions?.. dave..

ffffg - I had a similar problem (I think) to yours with my Krieghoff Drilling; when fired it would first "rear up", kicking me in the shoulder, as it "slap" me in the "chops". My problem was a sharp "comb" which also had too much drop from the receiver. I installed a piece of "neopreme" material, cut-to-shape, and installed it over the "nose" of the comb. It doesn't look great (can easily be removed), but it sure makes it much more comfortable to shoot. Best of luck - Mags

Your drop sounds like a bit too much, buy that is not a super big deal.

Kick-Eze make a product called Cheek-Eze which is a sorbothane stick-on pad you put on the top of your stock just for this problem.
It is a recoil absorbing material and works great, especially for guys who have those big 500 Whiz-bang guns that kill on both ends.

A friend attended a 2 day shooting school in Houston and asked that question since I am having the same problem with my Beretta. The instructor told him to check the pitch and install an appropriate sized pitch spacer. I needed a positive pitch spacer to solve the problem. I found some in a Gamaliel Shooting Supplies catalog on page 49. Now to get one and see if it works.

Had a Beretta 12ga. onyx o/u that required more positive pitch. About 1/8" to 3/16". It also required removing some wood from the comb. My son and I both shot the gun and it was a face beater. After he had it fitted... it's a real nice gun to shoot.

Just measured my Merkel sxs model 8. It's a 20ga with 26 3/4" barrels. The barrels are approx. 3 1/4" from the wall.

Good luck with your gun,
Regards,
Terry

Go to shooting school with Dale Tate, or the like....They'll get you properly fitted and you can then apply that knowledge to future gun purchases.
