Remington 1100 catching low brass shell?

Has anyone else beside me had problems with a Remington 1100 not feeding low brass shells properly? I quit using it for that reason. The lifting fork at the beginning of the mag. tube forks the low brass plastic shell and jams quite often. How can I fix this? I suppose maybe file the forks just a tad?

I'm not sure what you mean by "forks the low brass"? Does it do it when you function it manually? Does it do it with high brass? If not, I'm guessing you might have either a magnum tube on the gun, or have an obstruction in the gas ports in the barrel? I repeat, this is just a guess. Never say never, but I've never heard of filing the forks before.

The tips of the lifting fork in the bottom actually "spears" or "forks" the plastic shell just above the brass. This occurs during shooting. If I shoot high brass shells the problem goes away. I forgot to mention that when the shell is speared or forked the gun is then jammed, in other words no more shots until it is unjammed. A real pain.

I've seen all kinds of breaks and malfunctions on 1100s but I've never heard of that particular one. Filing might work. I don't think it can hurt if you use a bit of common sense. Without looking it sounds like it might be bent a bit.

1100's can be very finicky with low brass. Since it's feeding high brass, I doubt it's mechanical. If it's been shot a fair amount, plenty of powder build-up in receiver; tap the two pins out and clean all grooves inside well with nylon brush. Also, take a pipe cleaner[wire with the fuzz] and clean out gas ports on bottom of barrel. Regarding high/low brass, I like to split the difference on all my 12 gauges; 3 1/4 1 1/4 7 1/2's.

I've had the same problem with mine. I had to replace the barrel seal, which is the rubber O ring in front of the gas piston and piston seal. Somebody told me that if the O ring is bad, gas will leak out towards the front and not hit the piston full force thus causing it not to cycle. Replace the O-ring and give the gas assembly and the gas ports a good cleaning and try it out. Mine will cycle all but one brand of low brass, can't remember for sure but I think its the Remington Sportsman or something like that.

I seem to have a lot of jams with high brass reloads in my 1100 20ga.
