Some one was asking about low pressure loads for to use in those guns and barrels I was doing some file cleaning today.

I ran across the article by Ross Seyfried talking about that.

It from the May 1980 Guns and Ammo a worth while article for those interested.

I have been shooting light loads through Damascus barrels for at least a dozen years. The key is to ensure the barrels are properly inspected, are mostly free from pitting, and keeping the loads light.

In my 12 bore Scottish hammer gun circa 1880, I use Rio factory loads with either 7/8 or 1 oz loads. Keep the powder low and velocity down. I've shot hundreds of sporting clays rounds through this gun, and it still locks up as tight as the day it was built.

Damascus barrels in good condition are just as good as steel barrels in equal condition. It's been proven over and over again by Ross Seigfried.
