Just booked a hunt in Pike Co. IL for next Nov.

Now I need some info on slugs and guns, Which gun or barrel and which slugs.

I have a 3" 870 are there any good barrels for that gun.

Thanks,

Wayne Rush [Smile]

Hastings makes a good barrel, however you can buy a mossberg, marlin, or savage(I think)bolt action rifled barrel slug gun for about the same price as just a barrel. I'm a fan of the Mossberg 695 but I'd suggest you handle all 3 and pick which one you like best.

You should like hunting in Pike county, it is the top producing county in Ill. I live in the next county south, drop me a line when next year rolls around and my wife will cook up a venison dinner if the timing works out.

Well you already have a good gun just get a slug barrel for your 870 or you good shoot the bird barrel i would get a slug barrel though. As far as slugs goes my 870 likes the remington sluggers the best.If you are dead set on buying a new gun my personal favorite is the ithaca mod 37 the prefer the winchester slugs each gun has it's own personality to which ammo it likes good luck.

A buddy of mine has taken an Iowa whitetail at ~200 yards with a 12 ga. barrelled NEF Handi-rifle. He says it's remarkably accurate. You can probably pick one up as cheap as you can a replacement barrel for your Remington.

So, I wonder....

A shotgun with a rifled barrel.....is it no longer a shotgun (a gun that shoots shot) but a rifle (a gun with a rifled bore)???

I've often pondered this question....

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

I have just the rig for you. A 11-87 with a Hasting's barrel. The barrel has good open sights but I also have a scope mount and rings for it.

This is a package that I am trying to sell. The shot barrel with all the chokes comes with it plus a sling. The whole deal other than the slug barrel has a camo finish.

Gun is in great shape and has been shot very little.

Give me $550.00 for the whole rig and I'll pay the postage and ins. Also I'll give you a 3 day inspection period. If you really don't like it I will take it back but you'll need to pay the return postage.

The government considers it a shotgun for purposes of the NFA.

If you happen to still be looking for a slug gun, I'm posting an ad for a Mossberg 835 on this site.

if using a scope, get a cantilever rifled barrel for a pump(870) or auto. Or the bolt action slug guns are very accurate also.

I have a Ithaca 37 12Ga Slug Gun that I have used for years in Alaska in my Boat, camper, truck, ATV, fishing. It has a 20" barrel smoothbore barrel and I use Brenneke 2 3/4" Mag 1 1/8 oz. Slugs, which I have taken moose and bear with this load. Excellent Shotgun for the house def. also when loaded with #4 Shot Copper Plated shot.
