Today at the skeet range I had 3 FTFs in a row in my 28 gauge Browning. I was (for the first time ever) shooting Fiocchi Exacta target loads.

The failures occurred in the lower barrel. I shot a couple of stations with the upper barrel, and for the rest of the round both barrels performed just fine. We shot one more round and I had no more failures.

The gun is a Browning Citori White Lightning I bought NIB late last year. Our range closed due to the pandemic and just re-opened 3 weeks ago, so I've put minimum rounds through the gun--probably fewer than 300.

The FTF primers showed a very slight dent. When I tried them again (upper barrel) they fired.

I'm wondering if the primers were slightly high and the first strike just pushed them down without enough force to ignite?

Or do I have a firing pin issue?

I called Browning & the tech suggested I shoot several boxes of AAs or Federals to see if the problem repeated; if it does, he said send the gun to them for repair.

I'm 73 years old, have owned and shot a lot of shotguns and NEVER had this kind of problem.

Any thoughts?

Could have been a burr.

Could have been the ammo.

Could have been dirt.

Until further testing who knows.

It is the ammo and is a unique problem with Browning, try a different brand.

Take it apart and clean it real good. Hopefully it is just dirty...
A good friend had a Browning Citori that broke 2 firing pins. Both times it was the bottom barrel. The first time it happened during Trap practice. The second time was during a Sporting Clays tournament. He is left handed so he could not borrow a replacement. He was not a happy camper. He traded it in ASAP for another new gun.

I had a case of 28gauge Fiocchi with this same issue. Called Fiocchi and they had me return the case to them. They replaced with new case. No problems. These were 28 gauge 9.

Went to the range today with the same 28 ga shotgun and factory AAs. Shot 2 rounds, no issues whatsoever.

I had serious trouble with Fiochi .410 skeet rounds and it turned out to be the ammo. Fiocchi exchanged them 100% for new shells.....
They treated me right The primer pockets were too deep and the firing pin barely struck the primer.

Also worth noting... the Citori requires full release of the trigger between shots, otherwise it may not reset for the second barrel.

I prefer my Browning Supers to the Citoris.

Good friend was having the same problem with Fiocchi's and his 28ga Ruger. After reading this poost I told him to call Fiocchi they send him 4 boxes within a week..
They said the problem was hard primers and perhaps primers seated to deep and mostly out of the bottom barrel..

I have used Fiocchi shot shells in my 16 guage doubles for many years without issues, but they are a bit hotter than I like.
