I bought a Beretta Silver Hawk in 20/76 the other day, and took it to the local trap range where I shot 20 out of 25, 3 times in a row. Which I find acceptable with a gun I've never shot before.

Today I was able to put up some paper and see where the shots were going. I used full choke at 30 meters (I shot 15 shots)and the result was that the pattern is going to the left:

Just for fun, I shot another 10 with my "weak" eye closed, and they too went to the left. But, for some reason they went a bit higher. Why would that be?

One eye open:

Forgetting about the high shots using only one eye, what should I have do to the stock? Besides reducing LOP (It's about an inch too long)?

Any comments are appreciated!

are you looking down the center of the rib? high and low are not a problem at this time.. but the right and left if your looking down the center of the rib is a serious problem.. if it has two beads line them up.. if not center the gun on the target and shoot with it lined up bead, rib, and pattern.. are you using 1 1/8 ounce of shot? my gun shot high with one ounce loads until it went ot a heavier load and this lowered the pattern fine.. if your looking down the center of the rib, and the blue dot is the center of aim with the bead just under it, take the pattern and the gun to the dealer you bought it from and shove it where the sun dont shine.. before you do thisyou could have a nowlogeble freind at the club shoot it and see ifit shoots to the left for him.. it is possible yhour doing something wrong.. but from what you gave us and i understand what your doing it looks pretty bad. dave...

YOu probably need to have the stock bent a little bit. Putting some cast into the stock will move POI left or right much like the rear sight on a rifle. I wouldn't worry about it shooting high, you'll find that it's easier to see the target that way. Again though, that is something that can be fixed with a proper fitting.

I would get the LOP corrected first. Because your eye is the "rear sight" you need to move the rear sight further to the right to move the pattern to the right. A stock that is too long is placing your cheek further back on the stock and most stocks are shaped so they taper "out" from the grip to the butt plate. It might be wishfull thinking but moving your cheek 1" closer to the grip might give you enough movement to the right of the rear sight to correct your problem. If this fails you will need to try some of the other methods already mentioned.

Gatogordo,

I'm afraid it would be politicly incorrect only to shot leftist birds here in Norway. But then I'm not known to be politicly correct so I guess it just might work for me!
