O/U question for a young lady

My Mom bought us a few guns for Christmas last year, I got a Beretta 687 Silver pigeon 2, 12ga. Wife got a nice rifle and scope, Daughter got a Beretta AL391 20ga. youth.
Problem, Daughter likes my O/U much better than her auto. She is not at all recoil shy, she shoots my .308, and the Beretta, and they are both too long for her, but she dosen't seem to mind.
Any suggestions? NO, SHE AIN'T my gun.
Looking for a good quality 12 ga. and having the stock cut to fit, and adding a limbsaver pad. It doesn't have to be a "pretty" gun, but good quality. Hoping to send $700-$800. Her birthday is in March.

Thanks!
Joe

Joe-

Look at the Ruger Red Label. One of the "less expensive" O/U's out there. I like them. They aren't fancy, but have nice lines and usually some better than average wood.

I also like SKBs. I've got a M500 and a M600. They are my "best hitting" shotguns that I own. They just "fit" me about perfectly.

BTW, sounds like things are looking up for you, based on a few of your recent posts. Glad to hear it! thumb

My first thought was "well, maybe YOU think it should not be pretty". First rule of gun buying for ladies: pretty counts. A LOT.

I personally don't care for the Red Labels, from a "feel" and "quality" standpoint. You could buy a used Citori (field) for the same money, and have a far, FAR better gun, IMO.

What I would do is see if you can find a Beretta O/U field grade, and trade the AL391 in on it. Some of their 20 ga. guns are quite nice and you should be able to buy one for just a hair over $1,000, or something like $500 with the trade. JMO, Dutch.

My wife shoots a Beretta Whitewing o/u in a 20 gauge without any problems. It shoots well and fits her well without modification. I believe they can be had from Dick's sporting goods for under $1000.

Check out the Lanber 2097. My daughter has been shooting skeet with hers, actually a 2087 for 4 years. Works great, tight fit and finish and nice looking. Cdnn has them. Go here

Can you get Laurona in the USA? My wife has used hers for several years now, many thousands of rounds downrange at skeet, and the damn thing just keeps on going. Quite pretty (No, both of them!) too. In OZ they run to about $800 AUD less that the Beretta 686s, if you can find one, it might be worth a look?

Merry Christmas.

Cheers, Dave.
