Gentlemen... did a search on this topic and didn't find much so I thought I'd pose the question...

I'm looking for a slug gun for deer hunting in Indiana and really like the Model 1100 (and 870) with the rifled/cantilever barrel. My question is, is one action type inherently more accurate than another?

I understand the advantages of the quicker follow up shot with the ssemi-auto...

Thanks!

Hello to a fellow Hoosier! I use a Browning Gold deer hunter in 20 gauge with a rifled barrel, and have a 2 to 7 power Leupold Scope mounted on it. I've also got an Ithaca M-37 pump smoothbore in 12 gauge & also had a Remington 1100 in 12 gauge. I doubt if there would be much difference in accuracy of the two types. I know several hunter use the 1100 & 870's had good success with both. <Hope this helps!>

My only suggestion would be to look into using a "Hudson" 24" rifled slug barrel. (Remington has improved its rifled slug barrel by offering it at 22" now, I believe, an improvement over the previous 20" barrel and I have had no experience with it but it sounds better) I can only say that I had what I thought were phenomenal groups at 50 yards with a 24" rifled slug barrel from an 1100 using 2 3/4" shells,12 ga. (Leupold 4X scope. Groups,as I remember were about 3" at the widest)

In revisiting the site and reading my last post I see that I referred to a "Hudson" barrel. Of course, I meant a "Hastings" barrel. Please put it down to a "senior moment"! Smiler

3" at 50 yards is a "pattern"? Smiler (I really did often group at 2" with an 1100. Honest!) Smiler You have to understand that this 76 year old started out when slugs barely would hit the proverbial barn. 3" groups made me feel like a crack shot Smiler - and so I'm glad to read that such groups as yours are possible since I was shooting an 1100 with slugs!
